Lesson
Take Downs & Ground Control Techniques TCOLE # 2040 – March 22, 2023
It is commonly taught that a subject is most likely to flee as they are being placed in handcuffs. Without a clear roadmap of how to handle a resisting/fleeing suspect, the officer could be left in a dangerous tug-of-war with the subject, sometimes with one hand still in the handcuff.
In this course we will look at 2 easy and safe takedowns for a resisting / fleeing subject. As well 2 ground control positions while the subject is attempting to resist and flee. We will learn how to take advantage of these most common positions officers and suspects find them selves in.
The Purpose of this course is to familiarize and empower students with safe and effective techniques that when done properly, not only significantly reduce the risk of injury to both the officer and suspect but will very quickly gain compliance of the actively resisting subject.
When these techniques are applied on the street, and the “Roadmap” is known by each responding officer, then there is no confusion of what steps to take to assist the primary officer during the struggle with a suspect. In a sense each officer speaks the same langue and knows each turn on the map to take. No matter who is driving, a clear path on the map can be seen, and each officer can then act with certainty knowing exactly where to be, what to do, and how to do it.
We move at the pace of the class and no faster than anyone can understand or preform the techniques. This is NOT another punishing session from the academy. Our goal is to intelligently learn and preform these techniques safely.
Bring comfortable gym clothes (not too lose fitting), sandals, snacks and water.
