Training Rules

Training at the Tyler Police Department is open to the following individuals:

City of Tyler Employees
FBI National Academy Graduates
Any person who holds a TCOLE License
Fire or EMS Personnel
Other Agency at the discretion of the Training Unit

Attendance Requirements

Individuals who attend training are required to attend 100% of the class. If an individual has to miss any instruction time, it will be the instructor’s decision as to whether or not the time will be able to be made up so the student can get credit for the class.

Minimum Scores

For any firearm related class the student must score a minimum score listed below based on the type of class:

Handgun scores must be 80% or above to pass
Rifle (No-Scope) scores must be 80% or above to pass
Rifle (Scoped) scores must be 90% or above to pass

Any classroom only instructional class the student must have a minimum score of 70% on the exam to receive credit for the class.
